Ascenti teams up with GB paraclimbers

High hopes for GB Paraclimbing athlete at World Championships following specialist physio treatment.

Richard Slocock, 38, from Shelton Lock Derby, will be competing at the World Championships in Austria this September with the GB Paraclimbing team, some of whom have been receiving complimentary treatment with Ascenti Physio.

Richard had been climbing for 12 years before he was diagnosed with macular degeneration in 2015, a rare genetic eye disorder that causes vision loss.

“When my sight started to go, climbing was the rock I needed. Although it was getting more difficult and frustrating, I had a good support system around me who helped me to carry on and never give up” explains Richard.

Richard’s first year with the GB Paraclimbing Team has already seen him compete in the Briancon World Cup where he placed 4th and he now has his sights set on the World Championships.

“I am a little disappointed with the results as I made a mistake and grabbed the wrong hold but that’s the perils of being blind. Climbing is a strength endurance sport, so the physio I have received has been an invaluable part of my training for the World Championships” added Richard.

As he prepares for his next big challenge Physiotherapist, Josh Conway, has been providing hands-on manual therapies to keep his body fit for training at the Ascenti clinic in Derby Revive.

“Top physiotherapists to elite sportsmen and women founded our business and shaped our clinical philosophy at Ascenti, so we are passionate about helping athletes like Richard to achieve their full potential. I have every confidence that the team will go on to achieve great things” said Josh.
